                                  TOCO Trainees Complete Their Off-Job-Training

February 2022.

Takatuf Petrofac Oman (TPO) has successfully completed the off-the-job training for its first cohort of 10 trainees from The Oman Construction Company (TOCO).

Funded by Ministry of Labour (MOL), under the Training for Employment (TFE) initiative and supported by OLNG, TPO has delivered a 5-month programme in its Muscat based Centre of Excellence, culminating in the City & Guilds Performing Engineering Operations NVQ Level 2 qualification, and CompEx Foundation Plus.  Thanks to the trainee’s dedication and the expert instruction, all trainees have been successful in achieving both qualifications prior to leaving TPO.

All 10 trainees are now undertaking a further 4 months On-Job-Training at the OLNG site in Sur, supported by one of TPO’s on-site assessors.  Ultimately, the 10 trainees will be employed as Hazardous Areas Equipment Inspectors for TOCO, eventually working towards full CompEx certification.

CompEx, Competency in Explosive Atmospheres, is a global certification scheme for electrical and mechanical crafts persons and designers working in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Jamie Mackay, Technical Lead at TPO, complimented MOL, OLNG and the TOCO Site Management for showing such great initiative in supporting the trainees to embark on this career.  “This training course is the very first of its kind in Oman and our 10 trainees have been given a wonderful opportunity by TOCO to ensure that they have a very bright future.  TPO is proud to be an integral part of this initiative.”
